HELMET AND LENS SIZES

How to Choose the Right Ski Helmet Size

Choosing the correct ski helmet size is essential to ensure comfort, stability, and an optimal fit on the slopes. A properly fitted helmet should sit snugly and evenly around your head without feeling too tight or creating uncomfortable pressure points.

To find the ideal size for your HMR Helmets® ski helmet, follow these simple guidelines.

How to Measure Your Head Circumference

To determine the correct helmet size, use a soft, flexible measuring tape and follow these steps:

  1. Wrap the measuring tape around your head, positioning it approximately 1 cm above your eyebrows and ears.
  2. Keep the tape level and comfortably snug without pulling it too tight.
  3. Read your head circumference in centimetres.
  4. Compare your measurement with the HMR Helmets® size chart below to identify the most suitable helmet size.

This measuring method applies to both adult and children’s ski helmets.

How to Check the Correct Helmet Fit

Once you have identified your size, it is important to make sure the helmet fits the shape of your head properly.

  • Even fit: The helmet should fit securely around your head without creating excessive pressure on your forehead, temples, or the back of your head.
  • Stability: With the chin strap unfastened, gently try moving the helmet. It should not rotate or shift easily from side to side.
  • Safety: Fasten and properly adjust the chin strap, ensuring the helmet stays securely in place and cannot be easily pulled off.
  • Freedom of movement: Make sure you can move your head and neck naturally while maintaining clear visibility in all directions.
  • Long-lasting comfort: Wear the helmet for several minutes to check for any pressure points, discomfort, or pain.

The Ideal Fit for Safe Skiing

A ski helmet that is too loose may shift during use, while a helmet that is too tight can cause discomfort and reduce overall comfort.

Choosing the right size therefore means considering both your head circumference and the shape of your head.

Refer to the HMR Helmets® size chart and choose the helmet that offers the best balance of fit, stability, and comfort.
